We haven't been this far north for a number of years, at least 10 and possibly more. We stopped in various hotels not far from Inverary and had a lovely time. The first night we stayed in Loch Fyne...

SONY DSCWe had a few days in Bognor Regis at May half term. Christ knows why; I've forgotten now. But it was fun and the south coast never disappoints. Weather here, wish you were lovely.

The journey is pretty horrible if the roads are busy (and when aren't they?) The M25 coming home was a nightmare as for some stupid reason I decided we'd go clockwise instead of back over/under the Dartford crossing. Some people have to suffer this road every bloody day!

I noticed that just about everyone who passed along the sea wall in front of the hotel was either jogging, biking or staggering along using a zimmer frame. I think I was practically the only normal walker. I say normal. Maybe it's the sea air or something.

The hotel was fine but all I could think about was that this isn't a Premier Inn: the room's wrong somehow, the bathroom's in the wrong place, the bed's not wide enough, the restaurant food is nowhere near greasy enough. I've spoken to other people who think like this. Maybe it's just the complete lack of surprise when you walk into a Premier Inn bedroom that does it for some of us. Is that sad?

You may not know the song April Showers; I do because I remember my mum singing it around the house when I was a boy. It was written in 1921 and made popular by American singer Al (Mammy!) Jolson. It...

We have been seeking out cat cafes for some time now. Our first was Mog on the Tyne, in Newcastle (where else?), which we first visited in 2014. I believe it is still going strong. I first heard...
