Pashley 019When you have been a teacher for umpteen years, it is bliss to go away on holiday in September.

Our 5-day world tour of Kent, Sussex and Hampshire began at Pashley Manor Gardens, situated near Ticehurst, close to the Kent/East Sussex border.

We got in with our HHA cards - well worth the money if you visit as many of these gardens and houses as we do.

The weather was sunny and shirtsleeves warm. To me, September sunshine is double the worth of that in July and August, if only because it is soon going to be bloody winter again.

And in the afternoon, we will visit Great Dixter, the family home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd.
