DSC06348Long gone are the days when we could do London to Glasgow in five hours,  with a single stop at Keele services. Nowadays, it seems rather a long drive doing Cleethorpes to Bristol in one go, so we looked for somewhere roughly half way for an overnight stop. Hello Tamworth!

Stopped for a couple of hours at Middleton Hall., the magnificent Tudor estate between Birmingham and Tamworth, which I believe to be the nerve centre of the pork scratchings industry. Possibly, I've just made that up.

I had actually heard of the 17th century naturalist John Ray from before, somewhere. He's worth looking up if you're into such things.

.Anyway, as their website says:

"Middleton Hall is set in 42 acres of the peaceful North Warwickshire countryside and run by an independent charitable trust. Journeying through our magnificent manor house, Georgian Walled Garden and peaceful grounds, you will discover over 950 years of remarkable history."

I loved the walled garden. Worth a visit if you are passing.
